On our website, you will find no less than 4 colt foals from the breeding of Stal Reikja in Drunen - The Netherlands. Therefore, it is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the dressage horse breeding at Stal Reikja. In this article, we will take you on a journey through their breeding program, where Passion, Performance, and Pleasure are the key elements, and introduce you to their exceptional broodmares.
The Beginning of a Dream: Several years ago, owner Sunit van Riel started breeding foals as a hobby when her beloved mare Lady Reikja was getting older, and she wanted to breed a filly from her. Unfortunately, breeding a filly was not successful, as Lady Reikja produced three consecutive colt foals. Although the breeding program couldn't continue with Lady Reikja's offspring, Sunit was infected with the breeding bug. As a tribute to Lady Reikja, all the foals bred at Stal Reikja carry the name "Reikja."
Growth and Success:
Over time, the breeding program at Stal Reikja has expanded, and they now work with broodmares from proven performance bloodlines. One of these remarkable mares is Opdradin S, from the well-known Bottie lineage. She is a granddaughter of the double Preferent Performance mare Amadin S, who produced the stallion Guardian S - a stallion that forms the basis of the stud farm of Peter van de Sande. Opdradin S is a valuable addition to the breeding program at Stal Reikja.
Likita and Mokita are direct descendants of the Elite, Preferent, Performance, D-OC mare Tikita, bred by successful breeder Willy van der AA. Tikita herself is Preferent and Performance, as are the five preceding generations. She is the dam of the PSG/Inter I horse Florante and the AES-approved stallion WHS Zorro. She is also the grandmother of no less than three approved stallions: Next Level, Olivier, and Night Shadow. Mokita produced Tivoli Reikja this year, a descendant of the young stallion Mister Diamond. Likita produced Trudeau Reikja, a foal sired by the talented stallion For Ferrero.
The Keur Preferent Performance mare Tirette will retire this year and will be succeeded by the promising 3-year-old For Ferrero offspring, Poirot Reikja. Poirot Reikja's dam, Armageddon (by Sir Donnerhall), is the full sister of the Grand Prix horses Sao Passionato and Apassionata. In the mare line, we also find the in Germany approved stallions Jazzman and Disaronno. Disaronno has also competed at international Grand Prix level. With such an remarkable pedigree, Stal Reikja has high expectations for Poirot Reikja and her future offspring.
The Ideal Foal:
At Stal Reikja, the goal is to breed foals with a strong hind leg, a pleasant character, and the potential to move effortlessly through their bodies. These traits are essential for success in the dressage arena and for the enjoyment of both the rider and the horse.
